Setting: The old man's house Situation/Climate: Characters: The old man, three police officers, neighbor, and narrator
The narrator chronologically surveils the old man for a week while he sleeps every night, with the old man being complete;y oblivious to the narrator's habits. The narrator behaves this way because he is heavily disturbed by the old man's vulture-like eye.
On the eight night of the narrator's peculiar and premeditated routine, he generates too much noise, waking up the old man in total darkness. This causes the old man's heart to beat rapidly and loudly, until out of anxiety the narrator rushes in and violently suffocates the old man with is bedcovers.
The narrator then eerily and specifically chops up the various body parts and methodically hides them under the floorboards so they are not found. However, due to the overabundance of noise, three police officers show up, who are called by a concerned neighbor. They initially find nothing. and their suspicions are not aroused. The narrator invites the officers to converse normally.
Gradually rising sound like the aforementioned beating of the old man's heart returns. Under the stress and agony of the increasing sound, the narrator belligerently admits to the officer, the murder he committed.
