Laurent Clerc and Thomas Gallaudet
Yes, I came to France to inquire more information of the teachings of asl.
Eventually, Clerc and Gaulledet talked more and Clerc decided to go back to the US with Galledet. On the ride back, Clerc taught Gallaudet some sign on their way back, grabbing his interest into ASL.
The First School For The Deaf in America
In 1786, Laurent Clerc fell into the fireplace from his high chair, leading him to get the scar on his face(which is now his sign name). He was just 1 years old.
Teaching in School
Gallaudet met Clerc whilst he was on his trip to France to learn more on teaching the deaf. They talk for a while and soon become collegues
Together, Clerc and Gallaudet estalished The First School for the Deaf in America. They taught ages 10-51. At the age of 12, their first student, Alice Cogswell enrolled into the school.
