  • Public schools were created for kids whose parents couldn't afford private schools or hired tutors. By 1850 most white children attend free public schools. But still most colleges did not accept Women or African Americans. In 1837, public universities started accepting woman.

  • The impact the education reform movement left is it created schools for everyone. It also started the movements for African Americans and Women.

  • Horace Mann was the leader of the education reform movement. When he was younger he only went to school ten weeks out of the year, which caused him to start the movement
