The book "Great American speeches" shows speeches that had an impact on U.S. history. “Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason toward my country and of an act of disloyalty toward the majesty of heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings.” (Page 2)
One speech is called "Liberty or Death". It was spoken by Patrick Henry andhelped start the revolution
The speech is named after his famous quote, which is "give me liberty or give me death" (Page 45) meaning he rather be dead than not free.
A second speech is called "Speech before the court" by John Brown, and it was spoken to revolt slavery.
This speech started the movement against slavery. After a long conflict, slavery was ultinmately ended.
One last speech was called the "War message" by Woodrow Wilson. This speech took place during World War One on May 5, 1917. Woodrow wanted world peace and a couple years later that is what happened.
