Isabel and Ruth are sister slaves in 18th century America. Their master, Mr. Lockton, is cruel. Isabel tries to be a good sister while also trying to not get sold. Behind her masters back, however, she is also a spy for the rebel army.
Master Lockton says that I must go to the tea water pump today.
One day, Mr. Lockton holds a meeting with some of his Loyalist friends. Isabel serves them as she is supposed to. WIth an unsuspecting sudden shock, she overhears them scheming to kill George Washington! As she starts to take notes, a crash is heard outside.
Oh yes! They wouldeth not knoweth it coming.
To end this war with thou rebels, we must assassinate General Washington.
It turns out that Ruth is having a seizure! Mr. Locktons wife, Madam Lockton, thinks she is the devil and starts beating her with a broom. "SCREAM!" Ruth screams.
Isabel decides that there is no way out. That night, she steals the list of names of Loyalists that are part of the plot to kill Washington and runs to the rebel camp. Cloaked in darkness, with rain pelting her body she managed to sneak away. She finds the rebel Colonel Regan and tells him what happens.
Colonel Regan promises to investigate, and sends Isabel back with a code word to enter the camp, ad Astra. With this, Isabel can relax. She sneaks back home and pretends to sleep. The sheets wrap around her like a warm hug.
Becoming increasingly worried about the rebel soldiers, Lockton decides to sneak away in a cheese crate. He is just in time too, as rebel soldiers go into homes and start arresting people.
