Magellan was a Portuguese man who sets out from Spain in 1519 with five ships called Victoria, Trinidad, San Antonio, Conception, and Santiago with a combined number of 250 crew members.
The Victoria had a length of 59-69 ft, width: 24.61', tonnage: 85 tons. The Trinidad had a width of 55' and a length of 55' and tonnage of 100-110 tons. San Antonio had a tonnage of 120 tons, Conception tonnage was 90 tons and Santiago had 75 tons. About three masks each and a few square sails and one to two triangular sails.
The crew jobs included navigator, cook. sail tenders, cleaning the deck, powder monkey, carpenter, and the doctor. The main disease that hit these five ships was scurvy.
Magellan convinced the king of Spain to fund his voyage through the Pacific Ocean. He sailed through the southern end of South America into the Pacific. They went months without seeing any land.
After exploring Guam Magellan reached the Philippines. While there, Magellan was killed in a war. Many of his crew were killed during this war. They decided to go back west towards home.
The only ship, Victoria, returned with only 18 men. They were the first to sail around the world.
