  • James Cook arrives in Australia in 1770 and was greeted by Aborigines, the native peoples.
  • Discovery of Wool 
  • Britain began colonizing Australia in 1788 the British government established a penal colony, a place where convicts were sent to serve their sentences in Australia.
  • Colonis in Australia 
  • British settlers eventually joined the former convicts in Austraila to encourage immigration the government offered settlers cheap land, which caused the population to grow steadily, in the early 1800's. The population skyrocketed after the discovery of gold.
  • Living Status In Austria in the Late 1800's 
  • An Austraila settler experimented with breeds of sheep until he found one that produced high-quality wool. And also the wool thrived in the courtesies dry and cool weather. Although sheep aren't native to Australia the raising and exporting of wool became it's biggest bussines.
  • Colonies of Australia wanted to rule themselves yet remained in the British Empire. During the 1850'S the colonies in Australia became self-governing and created parliamentary forms of government. In 1901 Australian colonies united under a federal constitution as the commonwealth of Australia. The later in the early 1900's Austraila became dominions.
  • Both native people and non-native people were excluded from democracy and prosperity. Diseases brought by the Europeans killed lots of Aborigines and Maori. As Australian settlement grew, the colonists displaced or killed many Aborigines
