  • Stage 1
  • UbD is a process of curriculum planning which helps educators plan lessons and curriculum with student understanding as the ultimate focus.
  • Stage 2
  • Observations
  • Ubd is a process, not a rigid set of rules or instructions to follow. It has educators work backwards through a 3 stage process. It is important that educators review, redesign and improve the curriculum by looking at student achievement.
  • Stage 3
  • Transfer Goals
  • In Stage 1, educators establish exactly what they want students to be able to understand and do. Standards become long term performance goals, and educators decide what students should understand, know, and be able to do from the curriculum.
  • Meaning
  • Essential Questions
  • Knowledge & Skills
  • In Stage 2, educators determine how they are going to assess understanding. Educators should refer to stage 1 and assessments should align with Stage 1 goals.
  • TEST
  • In Stage 3, the educator will create and decide what and how they are going to teach. Educators should plan the lessons and activities while staying aligned to the goals and evidence of understanding established in Stage 1 and 2.
