After being the life of the party at the reception, Mme. and M. Loisel arrive home only to find they lost the necklace.
Ten years later, Mme. Loisel meets Mme. Forestier . Mme. Loisel had bought a new necklace to replace the one she lost for 40,000 francs. Mme. Forestier breaks it to Mme. Loisel that the necklace she lent was made of paste and only 500 francs.
