Mr. Gorman receives a call that Mr. Pritchard has passed away the night before in his sleep. He then calls the school to inform Janie about the situation.
Mrs. Brown, Janie, Sarah and Emma all go to the old literary school to check it out and get some pictures for the project. In the process the cops come to check it out and end up arresting them for "resisting arrest".
Janie and Monster and have gone to Mr. Pritchards and dug out his burned cross and leaned it up against the Gorman barn. After this action they hope people during the hootenanny will go over and take good hard look at and all the names on it.
