  • Hello Ms. Smith, how is your first year of teaching first grade going so far?
  • I am having a hard time getting my struggling readers to reach their full potential. I am not being as effective as I should be. 
  • Try and use more research-based teaching moves. If you model, remind, scaffold, coach and attribute more, you will find these students to be more engaged AND motivated.
  • But how do I help to zero in on specific tasks or skills that each learner is individually struggling with?
  • You can use different presentation techniques such as individual checks, signaling, wait time, judicious use of teacher talk and other things. Using differentiated, systematic, explicit and supportive instruction within the classroom will help to make both you and the students more successful. 
  • Thank you so much for all of your help. I can't wait to use this techniques to help my students become more successful!
