  • Johannes Kepler's 10 Major Contributions To Science. Johannes Kepler (1571 – 1630) was a German mathematician and astronomer who was a key figure of the Scientific Revolution. ... Kepler discovered that planets move in elliptical orbits and at different speeds at different times, according to their distance from the sun. Though Kepler is best known for defining laws regarding planetary motion, he made several other notable contributions to science. He was the first to determine that refraction drives vision in the eye, and that using two eyes enables depth perception.
