  • It took place in Virginia, the present day City of Chesapeake, by a small bridge which crossed the Southern branch of the Elizabeth River approximately 12 miles south of the City of Norfolk.
  • What happened?
  • British leave!
  • Elizabeth River
  • December 9, 1775, in the early American Revolutionary War. This battle was one of the earliest, smallest, shortest, least know but yet most important actions of the American Revolution, it lasted only five minutes.
  • Result
  • Colonial Victory!!!
  • This war happened because both the continental Army and the British powers were struggling for military supplies.
  • Guns, ammo, protection
  • The continental Army forced the British to evacuate Norfolk, Virginia's richest commercial center, and contributed to the British withdrawing from Virginia.
  • Virginia being free of any organized British presence for five year- free to provide massive amounts of men and supplies to the Conitnental Army with no enemy interference. Colonial Victory.
