  • When Senate was out of session, President Johnson passes his Proclamation of amnesty.
  • Proclamation of Amnesty This is my  reconstruction plan for the  United States.
  • Today is George Washington's birthday.  As of such I have decided to honer his memory and call out the dis-unionists in congress by name.
  • Because the Radical Republicans outnumber Johnson's supporters 2 to one, they can pass any bill they want, which they did.  Often.
  • The Tenure of Office Act is passed by the Senate despite Andrew Johnson vetoing it.

  • The president is not allowed to dismiss any government official without approval from the senate.  (This protects Secretary of War, Edward Stanton. A supporter of the Radical Republicans.)

  • General Ulysses S. Grant, I hereby appoint you as Secretary of War in replacement of Edwin Stanton for the remainder of the time that Congress is not in session.
  • I, the Representative of the House of Representatives, hereby charge you, President Andrew Johnson, with  impeachment on February 24, 1868.
