Storyboard Text

  • Businesses were booming and more of them kept popping up everyday. The biggest business man in the city, was JP Morgan. He wanted to buy up every business he could, in order to create monopolies. Although he was very greedy he knew what was right for the economy. But because he tried to buy every other business many considered him to be a Robber Baron.
  • With the election soon to be underway JP Morgan knew that he had to keep Teddy Roosevelt out of any positions of power such as president. So Morgan bought out the votes of many people, thus getting Roosevelt the position of Vice President and the position of President went to William McKinley
  • I need you to make sure that Roosevelt is not elected into any positions of power. You got that?
  • Yes, sir!
  • Big Businesses were very pleased when they heard that McKinley had been sworn into office. The only reason was because he believed in a form of "hands-off" government called Laissez-faire. The government wouldn't be interfering in the world of businesses and they would be able to create as many trusts as they wanted.
  • Of course!
  • Do you swear to uphold the constitution?
  • After McKinley faced an untimely demise, there was no time to lose. Roosevelt had to be sworn into office. There was not time to find a proper venue, and Roosevelt was sworn in immediately.
  • I do.
  • Do you swear to uphold the constitution? It's an emergency.
  • When Roosevelt got elected he made it his mission to do as much trust-busting as possible. With the Sherman Anti-Trust Act he was able to do just that. By getting rid of the monopolies and trusts he was able to eliminate the power that Robber Barons such as Morgan had in the government.
  • I will now be enacting the Sherman Anti-Trust Act.
  • Although this took power from Robber Barons, the Captains of Industry that helped the economy, also were at a disadvantage. The new laws that Roosevelt put into action helped small businesses and helped the people by providing a variety of places to shop at a variety of prices.
