Storyboard Text

  • Ann is anxious about school.
  • Good Morning Ann! What's wrong? You look a little worried.
  • I am so concerned about our Biology midterm next week, I feel sick when I think about it!
  • She states why she is worried.
  • Why? I always see you taking notes and studying after class.
  • I have not been doing well on my weekly quizzes. My parents aren't happy which only creates more pressure on me and makes it harder to focus.
  • It sounds like it is a difficult learning environment at home for you.
  • Ann explains her Chinese Canadian Culture.
  • Well, my parents are Chinese immigrants, so I know they are just making sure I do well in school and get a good job. But they won't let me take medicine to help me focus and calm my nerves, even though my doctor says I have ADHD.
  • Be supportive.
  • I see, it sounds like you are under a lot of stress. We should go to the library together, it might help you study more effectively.
  • Wow! I think it might help me as well. Sometimes my parents can be intense at home, we don't really show our emotions and I feel silly when I do.
  • I already feel more confident for next weeks midterm. Thanks again!
  • A few hours later..
  • It's no problem Ann. I'm glad I could help, and you are welcome to talk or text me anytime you feel stressed and anxious. You can open up to me about your feelings, since you may not be able to at home.
  • The next week after the midterm.
  • Thanks for inviting me on this walk, it's so nice being outside after a stressful week of schoolwork.
  • I agree, my therapist suggested exercising when I feel anxious or overworked, and it's changed my mental well-being greatly. I'm glad it works for you too!
