  • In Al Capone Does My Shirts, the prisoners play baseball. Sometimes, balls would go over the Alcatraz fence, and kids on Alcatraz would find the balls, and they were really popular.

  • According to page 220 in The Author's Note of Al Capone Does My Shirts, Al Capone in real life was one of the first prisoners on Alcatraz. One of his first jobs was actually doing the laundry.
  • Also According to the Author's note in Al Capone Does My Shirts, on page 21 it says that Al Capone and the other Prisoners did in fact play baseball. The balls were considered out if they went over the fence, mostly because they were not allowed to go get them. Those convict baseballs were popular with Alcatraz children.
  • Occasionally, according to page 222 of The Author's Note in Al Capone Does My Shirts, the wives of Alcatraz guards were asked to censor the mail. It took 10 days to 2 weeks to get to the convicts after it arrived on Alcatraz.
