When the Europeans arrived in the New World, they tried to assimilate the Indians into their society in various different ways. For example, they tried to teach the Indians the importance of farming over hunting.
Our ways of farming are A-MAIZE-ING...
The Colonists also tried to convert the Indians from their nature-based religion to Christianity. This didn't work out too well. Overall, the Natives weren't going to change their ways of life to fit the standards and expectations of the Puritans.
Our way of life will always be better!
The Colonists kept turning Indian lands into Puritan farms. Much violence broke out and thousands of Indians were killed in combat. The Puritans justified these Indian deaths as the destruction of devil worshippers.
