  • I am starting to change my style, and I have the right to vote because of the 19th Amendment!
  • Jazz is a main part of the Harlem Renaissance!
  • Did you hear about the stocks? I heard people are making a lot of money!
  • Of course! I invested in a railroad and an eletricity company- both are doing very strong!
  • What is happening?
  • To the bank!
  • It's a bank run!
  • I need my money back!
  • In the 1920s, a lot of things changed. For example, the 19th Amdenment was passed- this granted women the right to vote. Women were beginning to feel more empowered in the world. Also, ladies began to change up their style than the usual wear- shorter skirts, bobbed hair, more makeup, stockings, etc. Once the Harlem Renaissance struck in the 20s, Jazz music became very well-known. This type of music was a main part of African American culture, and it created unity between others.
  • I can't even see the sky! Our fields are full of flying dust!
  • *Cough Cough!* The dust is in my lungs!
  • At the beginning, people began to buy stocks and invest in companies- a stock is an ownership placement in a certain corporation. So, people would place certain amounts of money in a corporation, and calculate the price per share (they will either make money, or lose money). Some people got filthy rich, and some lost all they had. Also, if someone who lost their money took loans from the bank, they still owe that money.
  • FEED THE HUNGRY, TAX THE RICH!
  • Into the cul-de-sac! No food and water for any of you!
  • When many people take out money from the bank at the same time, it is considered a bank run. This happens typically in fear that the bank will potentially collapse. Also in a bank run, many people would rush to the bank in hopes to gain the money they needed. Many people lost their money because of stocks, and poverty struck in society (stock market crash). Stocks also cost less and less per share, causing people to fall into the depression.
  • GET THEM!
  • The Dust Bowl was a huge moment in history that was a complete disaster- heavy winds and thick, black dust filled the sky. The dust covered many miles across the land, causing people to suffocate. Farmers' soil turned into dust, and the fields were left uncultivated by the farmers.
  • In 1932, many hunger marchers protested and chanted out loud. They yelled feed the hungry, tax the rich. This caused the police force to take the marchers and put them into a cul-de-sac. The police also did not let any of the marchers have food or water. In Congress, there were members who wanted the marchers to have the right to petition the government. Because of this right, the marchers headed down to Capital Hill to contitue their protest.
  • Also during the Dust Bowl period, the population of Jack Rabbits had a huge surge. The predators of the jack rabbits (especially coyotes) had a decrese in their population because of death or moving to different regions. Thousands of rabbits ran across the land and ate the crops. Because of the mass of annoying pests, farmers and people from the Dust Bowl region would go and have rabbit drives. This is where they would round up and kill thousands of the rabbits- they had to go!
