Storyboard Text

  • South
  • More slave states.
  • Slavery should not expand.
  • North
  • Kansas and Nebraska should become a state.
  • They should become a slave state.
  • There were many differences between the two different from the North and the South. Southern wanted to expand slavery but on the other hand, the Northern didn't want slavery to take over.
  • The newly Kansas and Nebraska territory  under the popular sovereignty caused a political crisis to Kansas and the whole nation. Douglas wanted to split the two new territories and make them states.
  • We should vote for slavery in those new states.
  • We should vote for anti-slavery.
  • The Kansas-Nebraska Act called for popular sovereignty. There were many people arguing if so it should become a slave state or a free state. On May 1856 the town Lawrence created an antislavery center and was sacked by pro-slave forces.
  • This event is going to be known as "bleeding Kansas" because of the things Kansas been through because of John Brown.
  • 1856, John Brown attacked a pro-slavery town and killed five settlers. 200 people died from the attacks and the fights.
  • Douglas pleased the southern to vote for him. If there were more votes for Douglas then even the Northern would have slavery, the south was really happy but the North wasn't. Later, the pro-slavery won the most vote and only 791 voted against slavery.
  • This event killed 200 people. This event was also the first civil war. After he killed more than 200 people John Brown flew away. Kansas, after all, became a free state.
