Storyboard Text

  • Janie
  • Now I want this house spotless when I get home
  • You both will never find a husband looking like that. Luckily you I'm here as your guide. Who needs a mirror when you have me?
  • Reign
  • Janie knows best.
  • Nyla
  • Now clean up before Janie gets home.
  • Reign, do you think Janie is right? Does she really mean it when she says were not beautiful?
  • Of course she is. Janie would never steer us wrong. This is the way things are and will always be.
  •  Who am I kidding? Im hideous. No one will ever want me. Janie is the only who's ever cared for me.
  • It would be nice to see my reflection, I may not be beautiful but I want to look for myself
  • I know Reign said that Janie is right, but I just can't help but wonder whats outside.
  • You call this clean?! A blind person can do better than this. Maybe if you were prettier you'd be able to find a decent job. But they'd never hire you, both of you are grotesque. Its a shame you can't see.
  • There once were two teenage sisters, Nyla and Reign. Who lived with their emotional abusive foster mother, Janie, since they were born. Janie worked a 9 to 5 job as a janitor and took all of her anger out on her foster children. She constantly told them they were not pretty and never allowed them to look in the mirror or to go outside.
  • Welcome home Janie! We worked on the house for hours. What do you think???
  • Huh? That doesn't even make sense. I can't stand another day in this house.
  • Reign was more on the people-pleasing side, obeying Janie's commands as they were given. Nyla however, was a little more curious. She believed there had to be something more to the life they were living.
  • Free at last! The wind feels so beautiful! I've never felt so alive! I never knew life could be so rewarding!
  • Wait a minute....whats that light?
  • As Nyla is left to ponder, she goes back and forth between wanting to explore, and wanting to please Janie and her sister and stay. Although she is incredibly unhappy at home, she is afraid of what she doesn't know.
  • Just goes to show that you will always live a life of ignorance unless you truly explore!
  • Wow....I am absolutely beautiful! I look like those models in the magazines!
  • I knew Janie was wrong! I wish Reign were here to see this....
  • When Janie gets home, she calls the girls down to evaluate the cleanliness of the house. Reign is only focused on making Janie happy, but Nyla notices that Janie's nasty remarks don't hold any substance. She makes the decision to not stay another day in that house.
  • While everyone is sleep, Nyla crawls out of her broken basement window and runs as fast as she can. As the outside breeze smacks against her face, she begins to cry. All she is used to is the morbid, ripped up walls of her poorly put together foster home. As Nyla keeps running, she's stopped by beaming a light.
  • The bright moon is shining off of a lake about a mile from Nyla's foster home. Nyla props herself on the ground near the lake, and decides to take a look into the water. To her surprise, she sees her reflection shining back at her-- for the first time ever. And she smiles. She finally sees her beauty after living in a false reality. The end.
