The rabbits need to cross the river to find a safe place to live, but plan to rest on the bank as Fiver is weak and Pipkin is injured. Bigwig tells Hazel there's a problem.
'If I were you, I shouldn't wait...... There's a large dog loose in the wood!'
Blackberry nudges something in the water and Hazel thinks he may have the answer to getting the weaker rabbits across the river.
'That's a piece of flat wood...it floats. We could put Fiver and Pipkin on it. It might go across the river'.
Bigwig and Silver won't help, so Blackberry pushes the wood himself, causing it to tip and rotate! The rabbits are scared. Dandelion is confused about the wood, so Blackberry explains.
'They're sitting on the wood and the wood floats'. Now we can swim over ourselves'.
'Frith and Inlé! They're sitting on the water. Why don't they sink?'
