In 1787, an uprising was started and led by Daniel called Shay's Rebellion. It was started because Shays and many other farmers who served in the Revolutionary War were supposed to pay taxes, but they only had IOU's because that's what the Articles Of Confederation gave them.
Because of this, the states started taking land from citizens because that's the only form of payment for their taxes.
This triggered Shays and others to rebel against their states, including Massachusetts. They started having riots and protests at government buildings to disrupt the collecting process.
The rebellion tried sending petitions to the government as well, but they were just rejected over and over again.
This triggered the rebellion to become angrier and more violent towards the state collectors.
In 1786, things got serious when General Benjamin Lincoln gathered 1,200 soldiers, fully loaded with war cannons, to combat Shay's 1,500 angry farmers.
