  • The idea was announced at Louis B. Mayers house.
  • Great idea!
  • We film experts should award one another on our movies successes, don´t you think?
  • The idea was expanded a week later and Douglas Fairbanks was elected the first Academy president from 1927 to 1929. He was also the Oscar´s first host.
  • The Oscars could be listened to on the radio since 1930. They could finally be watched on tv in 1953, in which the telecast had over 34 million viewers.
  • The first ever Academy Awards were held on May 16, 1929 in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, California
  • The first person to ever be presented with an Oscar Award was Emil Jannings for Best Male Actor in 1929
  • The first Oscars to appear on tv in color were in 1966.
