Storyboard Text

  • The sun is 92.96million miles away from the earth. Sun is made up of hydrogen & helium. Hydrogen atoms change to helium through the process of nuclear fusion which happens in the center of the sun.  The temperature of the sun is 5,778 Kelvin.
  • The earth takes 365days to orbit around the sun once. The temperature is 7.2degrees celsius. It rotates around the axis which causes night & day. The earth's atmosphere contains oxygen and blocks radiation from the sun. The magnetic field protects the earth from the solar wind. Magnetic field exists due to, materials in the inner and outer core.
  • Closest planet to the sun. Takes 87days to orbit once. Mercury is made up of solid iron and magma which causes it to be very dense. Over time, the core shrinks as it's made up of liquid which is less dense than a solid. It doesn't have an atmosphere, therefore, gases can't be trapped. The temperature depends on its relation to the sun.
  • Asteroids: Asteroids are made up of metal & rock. Majority are found in asteroid belt which is located between Mars and Juipiter. When they orbit they may cross the Earths orbit which can cause a large amount of energy and dust being released. The dust blocks heat entering the Earth causing it to get cold.
  • how does gravitational field strength (g) vary on other planets and the Moon compared with Earth? The moon has a lower mass than the earth, therefore, the gravitational field strength is 1/6 of the earths. The object with a mass of 1kg would be attracted to the center of the earth. The mass always stays the same on planets.
  • Comets:  Comets are balls of ice and dust that orbit the sun.  The time taken to orbit varies depending.
  • Orbital Speed: Equasion=2pie x orbital radius divided by time period The further the planet is away from the sun the slower it moves, and the more time is taken to complete an orbit.
  • Universe: After the big bang, protons and electrons were allowed into
