  • I think he's guilty.
  • Under Henry II, England developed the early basis of the jury system we use today. This jury included of 12 of the accused person's neighbors. Their job was to determine if the case should be brought to trial or not. The jury was collected when a traveling justice visited their area to discuss the accused's case.
  • A crusade is a war with the intention of being holy. The crusades began in 1209 when a brutal holy war stirred up against the Albigensians. The Albigensians had the hopes of purifying the Church to return it to the simple ways of early Christianity.
  • He was innocent, but sadly, just like tens of thousands of other soldiers, he was just another victim to the violence of the crusades.
  • The devastating loss of life left a large impact on the economy. Seventy million people died, so there were fewer workers. Fewer workers meant fewer products for trade and fewer people meant lower demand for goods. Workers that survived demanded higher wages because there were not many of them.
  • We survived the plague, we deserve a higher wage!!
  • In 1337, the King of England declared himself the King of France, instantly starting the Hundred Years' War. The war was fought between Britain and France and lasted from 1337-1453. At first, the war was terribly one sided because of the English invention of the long bow. This bow could fire three arrow in the time it would normally take to shoot one. But in the end, the French was lead to victory by Joan of Arc.

  • In 1000 Churches were built to model after Roman influence. These churches were called Romanesque. Their designs included a fortress-like appearance with thick walls and high towers. These churches had no windows making the interior appear dark and gloomy.
  • In 1140, a new inspiration of architecture arose and was known as Gothic style. These Gothic style churches were made to "shine with wonderful and uninterrupted light." This light was achieved by massive stained glass windows. A key feature of the churches were the flying buttresses, these were stone supports that stood outside the church

  • The day in the life of a University student in medieval times started extremely early, at exactly 5 AM. The students learned speaking, philosophy, literature, science and math. At 10 AM it was finally time for their first meal. Then back to class until 5 PM. After class was concluded for the day, they were sent for a light supper and then to study until bed.
