Storyboard Text

  • I am so tired of this, I really want to run away to the North, where black men like us are free...
  • I get your pain. Tonight let us run away from this vicious owner, through the use of the underground railroad.
  • Typical Day in a Slave's Life
  • After the slaves run away
  • WHERE DID THEY GO, HOW DID THEY ESCAPE AGAIN...SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS BLASPHEMY!
  • Be calm, husband, we shall go to higher officials and talk to them about this.
  • We have had this problem for a long time and I think this has to resolved at this moment.
  • Don't you guys worry we will fix this major issue that has been happening, as I will go to the national government and make sure they know.
  • At the state government office
  • Next day at Capitol in Washington DC
  • Something really needs to be done about slaves running away. I propose an Act that will help the Sotuh out as California enters the United States as a free state.
  • I see where you are coming from, and I think this act should be named the Fugitive Slave Law as it should me illegal for slaves to escape from their rightful owners.
  • The Law that is to be put in place states: The Fugitive Slave Law states that it is illegal to help a fugitive slave escape from its owner. This law is to now be set in place, making it illegal for slaves to run away. Thus, making the amount of runaway slaves much less.
  • Next Week in an official ruling
  • The Fugitive Slave Law was passed in 1850 by Congress. It ultimately stated that it is illegal for slaves to run away from their owner. If they do, people have the right to find them and claim them back.  This led to more slaves trying to run away, and the North started to see how badly slaves were being retarded. Overall, this led to the Civil War, which happened in 1861.
