Storyboard Text

  • I am here from England to trade my goods for yours
  • In the 1600's, France and England sent ships up the St.Lawrence river to trade with the first nations
  • I will trade you fur for food
  • After that first interaction, settlers from France and England soon moved to Canada to establish trading outposts
  • Look at all these goods just shipped in from the British
  • Once permanent outposts were built in the 1700's trade blew up. Finished goods came from British or French businesses
  • The demand in Europe for fish, beaver pelts, and lumber grew quickly
  • I need to find food source and fur now to keep my people happy and healthy
  • Trade has impacted Canada, Now we have become such good trading partners with the British from early on trade
  • My goods just got shipped from Britain, I better take these to the store now.
  • Early on trade shaped Canada's geography, traders needed to settle near water because they relied on ships to send their goods.
  • Trade has made it possible for Canada to receive goods that can not be manufactured here
