Henry O' Flipper was born as a slave on 1856 and was the eldest of 5 sons.

Even though Flipper was not the first black to get in, he was the first black man to graduate. Henry O' Flipper was Ostracized as a student attending this academy, by virtue of him being black.

O' Flipper was an officer in the 10th Calvary. He came to Texas on his way to Fort Sill, where he drained malarial from ponds, Flipper's ditch is now a national historic landmark.
O' Flipper continued to do many things as the lieutenant, for instance, constructing a railroad, installing a telegraph line, and help in the return of Quanah Parker's band from Palo Duro Canyon, but he sadly passed away on 1944 by natural causes.
