  • Excess production due to rising share prices led to an oversupply of product
  • OH THE ENDLESS DAYS AND NIGHTS OF MASS PRODUCTION!
  • Companies were forced to dispose of excess product and share prices stumbled as a result
  • Assets were liquidated due to lack of alternative funds and number of shares bought on margin by the general public.. the stock market CRASHED.

  • The Stock Market Crash of 1929 put fear into consumers. A fall in demand and consumer spending occurred.
  • Can I afford to spend?
  • Companies produced less to accommodate the fall in demand. The reduction of production led to the reduction of the workforce.  Unemployment rose by 25%.

  • Wages fell for those still employed and buying power decreased. Many were forced to buy on credit and fell into debt. Foreclosure and repossession increased leaving many living in poverty or not at all;
