Montag is walking home. (His footsteps are loud and crisp on the pavement as he walks)
Yes, I am!
What a shame, your not in love with anyone.
Montag meets a 17 year old girl named Clarisse while walking. Clarisse asks Montag if firemen used to put out fires instead of starting them, but Montag doesn't take the time to actually think about her question and laughs instead.
As CLarisse is about to go home, he asks Monatg a fairly simple question that leaves Montag thinking is he really is happy... Montag then continuously tells himself he is happy, almost as if he is trying to convince himself.
A simple game involving a dandelion made Montag realize he didn't truly love anyone. This is when Montag really starts to question things... Is he happy? Is he in love? Montag begins to question if he loves Clarisse (It is raining in this scene to emphasise sadness and defeat of Montag)
Another day comes and Montag see's Clarisse again. Montag asks why she never goes to school. Clarisse describes school as antisocial and harmful.
This is the last time Montag ever spoke to Clarisse before her death. had before CLarisse's death. All the talks Clarisse and Montag had, left him thinking about life and made things clearer for Montag to see.
