  • I think we ought to start over
  • It is a beautiful Summer morning.  In the village square, school boys began to gather stones as the school girls stood aside quietly talking. Men and women soon began to gather in the square as well. All awaited the annual lottery where the lottery official, Mr. Summers, would call the head of each family.
  • Climax
  • It's Tessie!
  • Mr. Summers begins to call people up to draw a slip of paper out of the black box. Once everyone opens it, they soon realize that Bill Hutchinson has picked the 'winning' piece of paper. Bill's wife Tessie is not pleased with the results.
  • Falling Action
  • Lets Finish quickly.
  • Mr. Summers then poured out the papers from the box, only leaving 5 in the box. This included Bill's paper. He then called each member of the Hutchinson family up to pick a slip of paper out of the box.  Each member of the family waits until Mr.Summers instructs them to open the slips.
  • Resolution
  • Once all five family members have opened their papers, all but Tessie sigh of relief. On Tessie's paper there is a dark mark from Mr. Summer's pencil. She was the "lucky" winner.
  • All the villagers getthemselves ready. They all gather stones into their hands. Tessie held her hands out as the villagers move in on her.
  • As stone's hit her head, Tessie repeats, "it isn't fair". She screams and it soon is over.
  • It isn't fair, it isn't right
