  • The Cubans rebelled against Spain because their government and economy was controlled by Spain.
  • We can not go to War.
  • Yellow Journalism was used in America to make the President agree to go to war.
  • We need compensation for the Maine, an end to the
  • reconcentration camps, a truce in Cuba and their independence.
  • On February 15, 1898 An unknown explosion sunk the U.S.S Maine and 250 American sailors were killed.
  • For $20 Million the US will receive the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Guam.
  • McKinley wanted peace with the Spanish but the American public kept crying for war.
  • President McKinley made demands to the Spanish and the Spanish did not give Cuba independence.
  • The Treaty of Paris was signed by the US and Spain on December of 1898. Cuba gained its independence.
