When i went to look for apartments they throw the door right in my face, they don't want no colored people you know, my skin is dark.
Most poor people in america did work but since the wages were so low, it wasn't enough to lift them out of poverty. This class was known as the "working poor" or the "poorer sort"
As white Americans moved out of cities, Black and Latino populations moved in to these decaying slums that became overcrowded. Since industries moved to suburbs jobs disappeared. Many places wouldn't allow people to rent apartments if they had different colored skin leaving them to have no choice but to live in run down homes
The Appalachia mountain regions in the south was one of the most poverty stricken regions in the country. They suffered from a decline in the farming and coal industries. This led to a loss of jobs, and not being able to lift themselves out of poverty.
