  • Silent trade is a popular trading strategy in ancient Africa that involved two people meeting up to trade without meeting face to face.
  • Silent trade took place in West Africa in the city on Kumbi
  • The caravan then brings the goods to the city of Kumbi

  • The caravan arrives to the city and they get a middleman to arrange a date, place and time to make the exchange

  • The trade in Kumbi happened along the river so one group would leave their goods along the river bank.

  • Before the trader leaves, he will bang a drum to signal the other trader to come

  • once the gold trader leaves, the salt trader see's the goods left for them and decides to take it or ask for more.
