Storyboard Text

  • Mr.  Hooper spends his whole life behind the veil. He hides his sins and ends up spending the rest of his days in misery.
  •  "All through life that piece of crape had hung between him and the world: it had separated him from cheerful brotherhood and woman's love..."
  • Mr. Hooper is on his death bed with a minister asking him if he is ready to die. There is also a group of spectators.
  • "Are you ready for the lifting of the veil that shuts in time from eternity?"
  • Mr. Hooper replies that he is ready. Although he says this, he is still wearing the veil which symbolizes that he is still hiding his sins
  • "Yea, my soul hath a patient weariness until that veil be lifted."
  • He asks the people why they are afraid of him. After all the years of wearing the veil, he is tired of people judging him.
  • "Why do you tremble at me alone? Tremble also at each other! "
  • "... Father Hooper fell back upon his pillow, a veiled corpse, with a faint smile lingering on his lips."
  • Mr.  Hooper falls back onto his bed dead.  He never revealed his sins and sorrows to the people.
  • Mr. Hooper gets buried with him still being veiled. Nobody ever saw his face again and nobody learned why.
  • "Still veiled, they laid him in his coffin, and a veiled corpse they bore him to the grave."
