Storyboard Text

  • Let's name him Toussaint.
  • It all started when Toussaint L'Ouverture was born into an enslaved family. Little did they know he would grow up to do great things.
  • What should we name him?
  • 1789, Toussaint leads a slave revolt against the French, British, and the Spanish because of a spur in the sugar plantations of Saint Dominique.
  • in 1793, the Jacobins, led by Robespierre, had wanted to see how far they could take the Revolution so they decided to vote against slavery in the French colonies.
  • While celebrating the ending of the Jacobins and the execution of Robespierre, Napoleon wanted to respond to the pleas of the plantation honor by reinstating slavery. The people were not happy with this.
  • This is outrageous!
  • Stop with the whole slavery nonsense! Is it over or not!
  • By 1803 Toussaint and Napoleon had agreed to terms of peace. A few months later they met for the safe conduct, when Toussaint arrived ships had fired, under Napoleons command, and took him under arrest and kept him in prison.
  • Please! My people, tell them to carry on the fight for freedom!
  • Toussaint died in prison, but others carried on the fight for freedom and soon after Napoleon gave up his position in the New World.
