Things just got carried away, that's all. We were all good kids - I mean really good kids. Not a single kind in the Shadow club had ever done anything bad and there wasn't a single delinquent in the bunch. Not at first." This tells the reader that although Jared did start the club and the idea to prank the "unbeatables" and will never be seen the same again that he is still himself "I'm (Jared) just a whole lot smarter now that's all".
The members of the shadow club start to set pranks on the "unbeatables" but then the pranks get a little out of hand and each member playes a ruthless(and secret to the other members) prank on an "unbeatable". They blame Tyson Mcgaw for all of the other pranks and begin torturing Tyson to confess that he pulled the pranks. This starts a conflict between Tyson and the shadow club.
The Shadow club members force Tyson to confess and begin pushing him into the water. They are made at him for supposedly pulling the vicious pranks on the "unbeatables" trying to get frame the club. They soon discover that Tyson didn't do it and that it was them, each member secretly pulled a prank on one of the "unbeatables" and they are suspended and punished.
Jared helps Tyson escape the fire that he (Tyson) set and became friends with him and apologizes for everything that they did to him make him confess to to something he didn't do. After word gets to Mr. Greene(the vise principle) the club members are suspended.
The theme is two wrongs don't make a right, even when they deserve it. "We felt the victims deserved whatever they got"(68)
