Intro: The book i read is more of a romantic comedy where she goes to spend the summer with her dad and unexpectedly falls in love. However, i have chnaged it to like a murder mystery and when she gets there, there is a serial killer loose in the town. Conclusion: I think changing the genre more so changes the outlook and the lessons you would get from the book, the main plot line is still there in a sense but it is now masked by the new genre it follows.
