I need to incorporate culturally sustaining pedagogy in my math classroom to ensure access and opportunity for all my students. But hm... what do I need to do?
WELCOME TO MATH CLASS
First, I need to assess my own personal biases and acknowledge awareness of cultures (students' culture, race, socioeconomic status, gender, etc.)
I have to make sure I don't make any assumptions that subconsciously make me lower the bar for my students. I need to hold high expectations for all my students.

Second, I need to build stronger relationships with my students and their families.

Does my work represent student work?
Third, I need to adapt my teaching and curriculum. I need to have content curriculum and relationships that are asset-based and that empower students.
Does my work start with my students?
Does my work empower students to engage with the learning?
This is not the end! There is always more I could be doing. This process is a life-long journey!
Change is hard, but it is necessary for our diverse learners.
