  • This mindfulness group will help develop the skill of emotional management. 
  • Good morning everyone and welcome back to group! Today's focus will be on self-management. We will discuss mindfulness.
  • Mindfulness? What do we need that for?
  • I don't really feel like we need that. I think I know myself pretty well...
  • Practicing mindfulness can help you become more in tune with your emotions and how your emotions and environment affect you.
  • How about we start with looking at the pros & cons of mindfulness to see if this is something that would be beneficial for you all or not! Practicing mindfulness is easier and more useful than you may think.
  • Ok. We are willing to listen.
  • I'd love to learn something new!
  • The OT facilitator describe each point: "In mindfulness awareness is noticing your thoughts, feelings and physical sensations in the present moment. Acceptance of these thoughts, feelings, and sensations in a nonjudgmental manner can allow you to better regulate your feelings and decide whether or not to adapt to change your thoughts and feeling."
  • Benefits of Mindfulness - Awareness - Acceptance
  • Mindfulness has two pieces; awareness and acceptance.
  • Practicing mindfulness and incorporating self management skills into your daily habits will help manage the impact on your daily life from chronic conditions you may be experiencing.
  • So this could help me explain my needs? Maybe even help me put me in more control of my health care.
  • - Mindfulness can help develop self-management skills - Self-Management skills: self-monitoring, problem solving, decision making, utilizing resources, building partnerships

  • Hmm maybe this will help me get my needs better met if I am able to be more in tune with my thoughts and feelings.
  • Sounds great and all but... I don't know where to find these "resources". I'm 95! Can't someone else just take care of all that.
  • Yes! With self-management you can take control of your health care services. It important to find resources to utilize and gain confidence to manage your health conditions.
