Storyboard Text

  • As senators, both Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglass had many debates about slavery.  These debates were later called the Lincoln-Douglass Debates.
  • Slavery shouldn't be allowed.  It's very cruel!
  • Slavery should be allowed in all states!!!
  • Abraham Lincoln was elected as the first Republican president and took a role as the 16th president of America with only 40% of the popular vote.  He defeated 3 other candidates including Stephen Douglass.
  • You should vote for me because I believe in equality for all men including slaves.
  • People, vote for me because I will make sure that slavery stays.
  • After becoming president, Lincoln decided to prevent slavery from happening in new states and to not abolish slavery in slave states so that it was fair for all the people.
  • I will not abuse my power and abolish slavery.  Instead, I will prevent it in new states.
  • Since slavery was prevented in new states, the income for the people in the South reduced.  As a result, the economy of the Southern states started to become very poor.  The Southern states started to pose Lincoln as a threat.
  • Ever since the number of slaves reduced, I am running out of money and it's all because of Lincoln.
  • There is no negotiation.  Unless you accept slavery, we will not come back.  Slavery is needed and we will not give up.
  • Due to the prevention of slavery in new states, 7 of the southern states seceded from the Union.  Lincoln tried to negotiate with them, but it was of no use.
  • Please, come back.  Slavery is an unecesary thing, but we need to stay united.
  • Since Lincoln was against slavery, the Southern states were against him and wanted more slavery.  The Northern states believed in freedom of slavery.  Due to this, the Civil War occurred between the North and the South.
  • For freedom!!
  • For slavery!!
