At the beginning, there was nothing but water. No land, animals or plants. Except, for one, single egg that floated on the surface of the ocean. One day that egg hatched, bringing to life the sun god Ra.
LET ME OUT!!!
Ra did not want to spend his days floating about the ocean so he flew up to the sky and became the sun. Ra dried up the water and created land. But he was lonely, so he created his wife, Nut. He then created many more gods and goddesses to keep him company.
Ra thought all children were glorious, however one child to him was special. That was Osiris. To show his grandson, Osiris, how special he was, Ra made Osiris the very first pharaoh of Egypt. Osiris married Isis and then settled down happily with their son Horus.
I'm so proud of you!
All was good, or so Osiris thought. Osiris's brother, Set, was enraged that his grandfather chose his brother and not him to be pharaoh. Set killed Osiris, chopped him into pieces and discarded of him in the Nile. Set was certain he'd get away with Osiris's murder, but you know how fast rumours spread...
Good bye brother! 😈
Isis managed to scavenge the pieces left of Osiris. She brought them to her good friend Anubis who managed to put Osiris back together, sadly he could not bring Osiris back to life. When Ra heard of what had happened, he was furious. He decided to give Osiris a new job. A better job. Osiris then became the god of the dead.
Where am I??
When Horus heard about what had happened to his father, he tracked Set down and killed him on the spot. Although grateful for what Ra, Horus and Anubis had done for Osiris, Isis knew she would forever mourn for him. So, from then on every year, Isis travels down to the riverbank and cries for Osiris.
