This is the cell! Right now it is in interphase. This means the cell is doing its thing until it's time for mitosis. There are 46 chromosomes.
The first step in mitosis is prophase. The spindles are forming, the nuclear membrane goes away and the chromosomes are condensing.
The next step is metaphase. In metaphase, the chromosmes come to the middle and line up in a straght line.
After metaphase comes anaphase. During anaphase, the chromosomes get pulled to the sides of the cell by the spindles.
The final step is telophase. The nuclear membrane starts to form around the two groups of chromosomes and the spindle goes away.
After Mitosis is complete, the cell is in cytokinesis. You are left with two identical cells with 23 chromosomes.
