Storyboard Text

  • This is the cell! Right now it is in interphase. This means the cell is doing its thing until it's time for mitosis. There are 46 chromosomes.
  • The cell
  • The first step in mitosis is prophase. The spindles are forming, the nuclear membrane goes away and the chromosomes are condensing.
  • Chromosomes
  • Spindles
  • The next step is metaphase. In metaphase, the chromosmes come to the middle and line up in a straght line.
  • After metaphase comes anaphase. During anaphase, the chromosomes get pulled to the sides of the cell by the spindles.
  • The final step is telophase. The nuclear membrane starts to form around the two groups of chromosomes and the spindle goes away.
  • Nuclear Membrane
  • After Mitosis is complete, the cell is in cytokinesis. You are left with two identical cells with 23 chromosomes.
