Storyboard Text

  • "'Now Gilgamesh has met his match"(4). Gilgamesh and Enkidu grapple with each other until they came to the conclusion they were equals. With this conclusion: "So Enkidu and and Gilgamest embraced and their frienship was sealed"(4).
  • I challenge you Gilgamesh, for I am the strongest in Uruk.
  • "'I will set up my name in the place where the names of famous men are written, and where no man's name is written yet I will raise a monument to the gods. Because of the evil that is in the land we will go to the forest and destroy the evil''(5). Gilgamesh to Enkidu on his proposed quest.
  • I want my name to be written beside those who are famous. The first human whose name is written there.
  • To prove my worth. I will destroy the evil in the Cedar Forest. I will kill Humbaba. Come with me, brother?
  • How do you plan to make a name for yourself?
  • "Gilgamesh listen to the word of his companion, hr took the axe in his hand...and he struck Humbaba with his axe to the neck, and Unkidu hi comrade struck the second blow. At the third blow Humbaba fell"(10).
  • "'Do not listen Gilgamesh: this Humbaba must die'"(10).
  • Ishtar, upset by Gilgamesh's rejection sends the Bull of Heaven to kill Gilgamesh and Enkidu. Enkidu and Gilgamesh kill the bull. Enkidu then throws a part of the bull in Ishtar's face, so as punishment Enkidu is killed. (11-12)
  • Giglgamesh, will you do me the honor of becoming my husband?
  • I will do much for you, Ishtar. But as for making you my wife, I cannot.
  • If he refuses, I will see that him and Enkidu will be killed.
  • "'Since he [Enkidu] went my life is nothing; that is why I have traveled here in search Utnapishtim my father; for men say he has entered the assembly of the gods, and has found everlasting life..."(15). Gilgamesh is seeking immortality for himself and closure concerning Enkidu's death.
  • "'Despair is in my heart. What my brother is now, that shall I be when I am dead. I am afraid of death...'"(15).
  • Although Gilgamesh did not succeed in his quest for immortality, he earned the respect of the people of Uruk. When Gilgamesh passed away, they honored him for many years to come. He was a true hero to them, and his impact on them left a legacy that would last forever (25).
  • "He overcame evil, he will not come again..."(23).
