  • Gentleman of the jury, the man before you , Samuel A. Worcester illegally resided in Cherokee territory.
  • *GASPS*
  • In the Georgia Court...
  • Worcester was then arrested and sentenced to four years in jail by the court in Georgia. The case was then transferred to the Supreme Court with John Marshall as the Chief Justice.
  • Supreme Court Chief John Marshall
  • We rule in favor of Samuel Worcester in a 5-1 vote.
  • WHAT?! Why?
  • YAY
  • The state of Georgia violated the Constitution, treaties, and the laws of the US.  We overturn Worcester's original verdict.
  • Now, only the federal govt. had the right to  impose regulations on Indian land, not the state government.
