"'For the hunter [...] Not for the jaguar,'" (Connell, 10)
"'Where there are pistol shtots, there are men. Where there are men, there is food,'" (13)
"'Come, [...] we shouldn't be chatting here. We can talk later. Now you want clothes, food, rest. You shall have them,'" (16).
Two remarkable hunters, Rainsford and Whitney, are out on an expedition to Rio and converse about a dreaded island named Ship-Trap Island and how hunting is a marvelous sport.
What does he mean by a new animal?
After falling off of the yacht, Rainsford hastily swims to a nearby island where he heard gunshots fired. Figuring that the only thing that could fire a gun would be another human, he begins to search.
You can't hide forever, Rainsford! I will win.
I'll have to make some traps.
He comes across a man named General Zaroff along with his bodyguard Ivan. General Zaroff offers to take Rainsford to his mansion for a meal and a place to stay while stranded.
Oh. Well, congrats. You get to live.
Looks like I won.
Then being invited into the General's mansion, they begin to bond over their love of hunting. However, Rainsford begins to notice something off about the General's story and becomes curious what he "imports" to his island.
After being told that the prey he now hunts is other humans, Rainsford has no other option than to accept the General's game.
Finaly Rainsford beats the General at his own game and is alowed to live.
