Jimmy's soccer ball got stuck in a tree. He stands 15 feet away from the base of the tree, with an angle of elevation of 67 Degrees. To find the height of the ball in the tree, you need to use tangent to find the given side. Tan(67)= x/15. 15tan(67)=x. Which equals 35.3 feet, so x=35.3 feet.
Jimmy's brother is taking him to soccer practice.
Jimmy is at soccer practice and wants to know the hypotenuse of the goal. If the goal post is 8 feet and the angle of elevation is 45 degrees. You would use the sin(45)=8/x, then 8/sin(45)=x, which equals 11.3 feet. x=11.3 feet
After a hard and hot practice Jimmy likes to come home and take a quick dip in the pool.
Jimmy was playing fetch with his dog, Spot. He threw the ball on the roof, the ball is 35 feet above Spot, and exactly 40 feet from Jimmy. To find the angle of depression you need to use cosign, but you need to use the inverse to find an angle. Cos^-1(35/40)=x. X= 28.9 degrees.
