Fortunato was invited to Monstresor's palazzo to try some of his specialty wine. In the evening, Montresor lured Fortunato down into the dark wine cellar.
I know you can't hear me. But you will know I will always stay by your side.
How will she know I am here?
Thank you for being nice. I love you. I was starving and thirsty. I would like to eat some of your food.
When they reach the wine cellar, there was no Amontillado wine. Instead, Fortunato noticed there was a large hole in the wall. Montresor apprehended and shackled Fortunato inside the large hole. Monteresor began to seal up the wall with bricks.
Fortunato screamed for Montresor to stop, but it was too late. Montresor left Fortunato there to die. Fortunato wish he had a chance to say goodbye to Maria, his wife.
Both hands were shackled. Darkness, cold, moldy walls and stinking odors surrounded him.
Fortunato heard a cat meowing. The cat sensed someone was behind the wall, and it refused to leave. Fortunato was very thirsty. He tried his best to catch the water in his mouth that was dripping from the crack in the ceiling.
Fortunato legs was aching. He slid down the wall but couldn't sit. He fainted and when he came to, he did not know what had happened. Fortunato's wife had frantically looked everywhere for him with no success. Two weeks later, Fortunato learned that the owner of the cat had saved his life. When Fortunato recovered from his horrific experience, he explained to his wife what had happened to him. The end.
