1. Ashoka was constantly at war during his reign. The deadly war at Kalinga left many soldiers 2. All the deaths in the war tired Ashoka so much that he vowed to never fight again and started practicing non-violence with buddhism

After the many bloody wars, Ashoka did not want to fight anymore. He started to listen to Buddhist monasteries and became a follower of Buddhism.
Moral of the Lesson
Many people say Ashoka built 84,000 stupas to store golds or pray to buddha.
He built the Ashokstambha whichare pillars that measures 40 to 50 feet long and show across the borders of the Mauryan Empire, reaching as far as Nepal, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. only 2,250 years later 10 of the pillars stays intact.
This matters because Ashoka made Buddhism known by trading across the world spreading his religion
